Provincial Nominee Program – Alberta
The Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AINP) is designed to attract experienced skilled workers who are able to support Alberta’s economy growth. Applicants who are nominated by the Province of Alberta can apply for a permanent resident visa under the Provincial Nominee Program.
CIC accelerates provincial nominee’s application and makes final decision. The AINP has several “streams” and there are specific criteria for each stream:
AlNP - Employer Driven Stream
The goal of this stream is to meet the needs of Alberta employers who are not able to fill permanent positions with Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. There are three categories under this stream and having a permanent, full-time, and valid job offer from an Alberta employer is a mandatory prerequisite for applicants who intend to apply under one these categories. Specific requirements of each category are outlined below.
Skilled Workers – Skilled workers who have a full-time, permanent job offer from an Alberta employer are eligible to apply under this category if the job offer is in an occupation defined as Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations), or Skill Level A (professional occupations that usually require university education) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades that usually require college education or skilled apprentices) under
NOC. The applicant must also meet the required qualifications and formal education and/or specialized training required for the position.
International Graduates – Foreign students who are graduated from a designated Alberta or Canada post-secondary institution may qualify under this category. International graduate must have received a job offer from an Alberta employer in a skilled occupation related to their field of study. In addition, they have to be employed with the employer on a
post-graduate work permit for at least six months.
The applicant must have the formal education and/or specialized training required for the position.
Semi-Skilled Workers - This category is for applicants who have a full-time, permanent job offer in an occupation defined Skill Level C or D under NOC. The job offers in Food and Beverage industry, Hotel and Hospitality, Manufacturing industry, Trucking and Transportation, or Foodservices industry are acceptable. The applicant must have the qualifications necessary for the job.
AINP - Strategic Recruitment Stream
The most important difference between this stream and Employer Driven stream is that applicants do not need a job offer to qualify under the categories of this stream. There are three categories in the Strategic Recruitment Stream as follow:
Compulsory Trades Category - Eligible applicants have a letter of invitation from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (
AIT). They must also:
Engineering Occupations Category – Engineers, designers, and drafters might be eligible to apply under this category. They do not need to receive a job offer from an Alberta employer. Eligible applicants must:

Have education training, and experience as an engineer, designer, or drafter;

have a “Letter of No Objection” from
APEGGA (the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta);

Be currently residing in Alberta;
-
Be currently working for an Alberta employer or have worked (within the last 12 months) in Alberta for either a recognized Alberta Engineering, Procurement, and Construction company or a company which is a member of
the Consulting Engineers of Alberta;
U.S. Visa Holders Category – Persons who are currently working in the United States on a valid temporary work visas (H1-B, H1-B1, H1-C or E-3) and are willing to live in Alberta, may qualify under the U.S. Visa Holders category. The applicant must have at least one year of work experience in the United States in one of these visa categories and their current occupation must be on
the Alberta’s Occupations under Pressure list.
AlNP - Self Employed Farmer Stream
Farm owner/operators who intend to immigrate to Alberta and purchase and manage a farming business in Alberta may qualify under the Self Employed Farmer Stream. Applicants must have:

Farm managerial experience;

Education, training and work experience necessary to develop a sustainable farming enterprise in Alberta;

Proposed business plan for the farming enterprise to be established in Alberta;

Commitment to invest at least C$500,000 of equity in a farming enterprise in Alberta;

Evidence that a Canadian financial institution will finance the proposed farming enterprise;
-
A minimum net worth of C$500,000 or confirmation of access to these funds from other sources.
AlNP - Family Stream
The family stream is a new stream in the AINP and is for Albertans who may wish to sponsor family members abroad for permanent residence. To qualify under the Family Stream, applicant must have an eligible sponsor. The sponsor can be a close family member (mother/father, son/daughter, sister/ brother, aunt/uncle, niece/nephew) who lives in Alberta and is willing to sign a Sponsorship Affidavit of Support. The sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada who is currently living in Alberta. The sponsor must be at least 21 years of age and be able to provide proof that he/she has financial ability to support the sponsored person(s). This can be done by demonstrating employment, private pension or other regular source of income for the past 12 months OR a minimum of CAD $15,000 in unencumbered, transferable and available assets (jewellery, cars or other personal assets are not considered)
The Applicant must:

Be between 21 and 45;
-
Be able to demonstrate English/French language abilities (he/she must have obtained an
IELTS minimum score of 4.0, or a minimum level of 3.0 (361-540) on the
TEF);

Have completed post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate program of at least two year in length;

Have enough work experience that is related to his./her post-secondary credential; and
-
Have at least C$10,000, and C$2,000 for each accompanying dependent, of accessible funds in a recognized Canadian financial institution or in a financial institution in his/her home country.
Note that if the applicant completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in English or French, an IELTS or TEF is not required with the application.

Over the past 15 years, the economy has experienced rapid growth in such industries as petrochemicals, forest products, food processing, machinery, electronics and telecommunications, tourism, and business services. Tourism generates over $4 billion in revenues each year.
